Hidden Figures in Finance



Highlighting, Promoting, and Supporting Women in the Financial Industry



Whether you are looking for potential business partners, mentors, leadership role models or inspiration, please join us for this event highlighting, promoting, and supporting women in the financial industry--both advisors and allied professionals alike.

The event will feature a panel discussion with four women from diverse professional backgrounds sharing their career paths and personal stories.  Join us for an evening of conversation, refreshments, and social networking in the beautiful ambiance of the Grand Salon at the 3 West Club in Midtown Manhattan.


All are welcome, regardless of gender!  This event is for anyone interested in encouraging diversity in the workplace and learning more about women in the financial and leadership communities.

   Cary Carbonaro, MBA, CFP® 


Cary Carbonaro is a Certified Financial Planner professional with an MBA in finance, and over 25 years of experience in financial services. Cary’s book “The Money Queen’s Guide For Women Who Want Build Wealth and Banish Fear” (Morgan James, October 2015) was an Amazon #1 Best Seller in several countries in Wealth Management and was ranked as one of the “Top 10 Books that Can Make You Rich” by Daily Worth.   She is the recipient of the prestigious “2016 Investment News Women to Watch” award and also won the Woman’s Choice Award and was given Women of Finance of the Decade in New Delhi, India.  In 2014, she was named an Ambassador for the CFP® Board, one of only 48 in the United States.   She is a passionate female advocate and champion of financial literary, having spoken all over the world on the topic.   As a Managing Director and Partner of United Capital (and Independent Investment Advisor), she counsels her clients how to live their best financial lives.


   Anja Luesink, MBA, CFP®, RLP®, CeFT®


Anja Luesink is a Certified Financial Planner practitioner and managing partner in Luesink Stenstrom Financial.  She guides her clients to be successful in achieving their life goals, recognizing that money is a complicated and personal topic. She is also a Registered Life Planner® and a Certified Financial Transitionist.  Her company specializes in Life Planning, Financial Life Transitions, Retirement Planning and Cross‐border Financial Planning.  She is passionate about empowering women and passing on her knowledge and experiences. She is an active member of the FPA and of NAFPA (National Association of Personal Financial Advisors).  In 2012, she received the prestigious Heart of Financial Planning award from the FPA NY Chapter and from the national FPA. Through the FPA, Anja provides Pro Bono financial planning for low‐income New Yorkers.  She served for two years as the Director of Pro Bono on the FPANY Board of Directors and as a Chair for the National FPA Pro Bono Committee.  She is currently involved in teaching Financial Literacy to domestic violence survivors. She also mentors younger planners, develops financial literacy curriculum, participates in the FPA International Group and is active on the FPA Community Committee.


   Iralma Pozo, CPA, CMGA


Iralma Pozo is a dynamic CPA with more than 15 years of experience. She is currently an independent consultant, educator, motivator who provides value adding services and empowerment to business owners and individuals. She has strong leadership skills and is a proactive professional who volunteers with professional accounting organizations. She has worked in the nonprofit sector in many capacities as a financial executive, consultant, auditor, board member and has also worked for the Internal Revenue Service, and has experience working with the entrepreneurs, small businesses, real estate, insurance and entertainment sectors.  She is an active member of the New York State Society of CPAs, currently serving on the statewide and Manhattan/Bronx Chapter boards and various committees. 


   L. Joy Williams


L. Joy Williams is a national political strategist, media thought leader, public speaker, and social justice advocate. She is a trusted strategic adviser to elected leaders and organizations across the country and is sought after by various media outlets for her expertise in politics, civic engagement, and social justice. L. Joy is the Founder and Principal of New York based consulting firm LJW Strategies, President of the Brooklyn NAACP, National Board Member of PAC+ and founding Chairman of Higher Heights for America. Additionally, L. Joy is creator and host of #SundayCivics, a podcast for the civically engaged. Throughout her career, L. Joy has continued to demonstrate a strong talent as a political planner and tactician, both in campaign and government politics. She has served in several high-impact leadership positions on behalf of some of New York’s most well-known elected officials and continues to be a respected and well sought-after voice in local, state, and national politics
